3-Step Home Remedy For Treating Symptoms From Your Rotten Tooth

Posted on: 28 December 2014

If you are suffering from symptoms of a rotten tooth, you may be waiting to treat it until you are able to see a dentist. If so, use this three-step home remedy that will relieve the pain and keep the tooth from getting infected. The supplies can be found in pharmacies and many grocery stores.

Step 1:  Brush With Baking Soda And Clove Oil Toothpaste

The baking soda in this toothpaste gently cleans any food or debris off of the tooth surface. This will help keep any foreign objects out that could cause an infection. The clove oil calms the pain by numbing the nerve endings.

To make the toothpaste, mix a half of a teaspoon of baking soda and five drops of clove oil in the palm of your hand. Then, dip a wet toothbrush into the paste and use small, circular motions to clean your teeth.

Rinse with warm water and go on to the next step.

Step 2:  Rinse With Salt And Peppermint Oil Mouthwash

The salt in this mouthwash acts as an antibacterial, killing the germs that could lead to an abscess. It also reduces swelling in the gum tissue by pulling out the inflammation. The peppermint oil stops the pain almost on contact.

In a small cup or glass, mix together a quarter of a cup of warm water, two tablespoons of salt, and ten drops of peppermint oil. Swish half of the mouthwash for two minutes. Spit it out, then swish the other half for an additional two minutes.

Do not rinse your mouth to give the mouthwash time to take its full effect. Wait ten minutes, then go on to the third step.

Step 3:  Coat The Tooth With Dental Wax

After you have thoroughly cleaned the tooth, coat it with dental wax to prevent air and food from entering into the cavities. It creates a soft barrier and acts like a temporary filling.

To apply the wax, take out a small amount about the size of a pencil eraser. Roll it into a ball between your fingertips. Place it on the crown of the tooth and gently push it flat. Use your finger to pull the edges down and around the tooth to fully coat the entire surface. It should be reapplied anytime it falls off.

Use these remedies twice a day to treat your rotten tooth. However, they serve only as a temporary measure. You may want to visit a dental office like Eden Prairie Dental Care as soon as possible to discuss your full treatment options.
