Clear braces are an appealing new technology, but they aren't necessarily right for everyone. To help you decide if clear braces are ideal for you, here is an overview of how they work and their benefits:

What are clear braces?

Unlike other braces, clear braces are disposable and made from plastics, which means several things. Firstly, they are practically invisible, which can be a huge draw if you are concerned about the appearance of your smile. Secondly, they will take longer than other braces to work. Since plastic is less durable than other materials, you can't create as much progress in a month as you might be able to with metals.

So how do they work?

The basic principle is pretty different than the one behind regular braces. Unlike regular braces, clear braces are created as a series of iterative pairs that you will wear for a few weeks each. Once you have finished with one pair, you are to throw it out and move on to the next. Your dentist will give you several pairs at a time, which means that you will be visiting a dentist at a clinic like Stone & Johnson Dental Group once every couple of months for a new set.

To do all this, detailed measurements of your mouth will be taken before you start the plan and your mouth will be checked again every time you visit your dentist. This is used to compute a design plan for your personalized series of clear braces. They are each manufactured according to the specifications of your mouth, so that they can move your teeth to where they need to be.

What are the benefits?

As you might imagine, the biggest benefit is often that no one will really know that you have braces unless you tell them. Being confident in your smile can be a huge plus.

However, there is another hidden benefit to clear braces as well: flexibility. Others braces are effectively permanent until they are removed by your dentist, sitting in your mouth and making you uncomfortable. They can also prevent you from eating the foods that you want.

Since clear braces are meant to be replaced and thrown away, you can easily take them out of your mouth whenever you want. If you feel like eating a certain kind of food or just relaxing your mouth, all you need to do is pop out your braces and remember to put them back in. As long as you wear them for over 90% of the day, they will do their job just fine.
