If you are a young adult and your dentist has suggested that you get braces, you may be worried at the way the braces will make you look. If so, you may have some options on making the braces less noticeable. All of this does depend on your personal situation, however. Below are two different options you may have.

Invisalign

Invisalign braces are clear so they are not very noticeable. When you visit the doctor, they will take x-rays and impressions of your teeth that they can use to make a custom-made aligner trays to fit your teeth. The trays are made of a type of plastic that will feel comfortable to you, and the tray is placed over your teeth. The aligners work much like regular braces in that they move your teeth into the normal position. The aligners are very easy to remove and then put back in.

You wear the aligners around 22 to 23 hours per day. You only remove them while you are eating and while you are brushing and flossing your teeth. Your doctor will replace the set of aligners every few weeks until your teeth are straightened.

How long you have to wear Invisalign braces depends on how crooked your teeth are. The orthodontist can go over all this information with you, as well as explain to you how all of this works in more detail.

Combine Clear and Traditional Braces

If Invisalign braces will not be able to straighten your teeth, you may be able to use a combination of the clear braces and traditional braces. For example, you may have some teeth that will be difficult to move and the Invisalign would not work well for these teeth. Your orthodontist will put traditional braces on these teeth.

If you have other teeth that are not badly misaligned, clear braces may be able to work well for those teeth. This would only work well if it was your front teeth that are not misaligned badly, however, and the back teeth are the teeth that are very crooked.

You may have to wear the traditional braces longer than the clear braces also. Make an appointment with your orthodontist to determine if you could use both clear and traditional braces on your teeth.

No matter what type of braces you have to wear, when the treatment is finished you will have perfectly straight teeth. For more information, talk to a professional like Janzen Janzen & Chwa Orthodontics Ltd.
